Highlands C.E.R.T.

What do you do? Where do you go?

The goal of the Highlands Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.) is to train Highlands residents, and other community individuals, in emergency preparedness and basic disaster response techniques. Each plays a critical role in providing support to emergency service personnel in the event of a disaster.

California seems forever susceptible to wildfires, earthquakes, heat waves, and power shutoffs. It can seem overwhelming, but you can be ready!

Emergency Go-Bag

What items would you take with you if you had to evacuate your home quickly? A grab-

and-go bag is a small emergency kit that is easy to take with you, in case you need to

leave right away. Here is just a sample checklist to get you started:

  • Flashlight and batteries
  • First aid kit
  • Whistle
  • Poncho/Mylar blanket
  • Food/Water
  • Hand sanitizer/Alcohol wipes
  • Face masks
  • Personal medications
  • Spare glasses
  • Toiletries/Toilet paper
  • Pen and paper
  • Copies of important papers
  • Small multipurpose tool
  • Cash (small bills)
  • Emergency contact information
  • Change of clothing/shoes

Remember, when it happens, you won’t have time to think about it. Are you ready?
